Nematode genus discovered by AMU researchers

The team`s findings have been reported in a leading international journal `Nematology` published from the Netherlands, university sources said.

The authors have named this new genus and species as `Rhinodorylaimus Kazirangus` on rhinoceros which is the flagship animal at this National Park, they said.

Prof Wasim Ahmad, who heads this project, said that the North-East of the country, where the nematode has been discovered is one of the world`s most notable "biodiversity hotspots."

Nematodes play a very critical role in the soil`s ecosystem, he added.
