Chandigarh: Heavy rains on Saturday lashed many parts of Punjab and Haryana, causing mercury to fall between two and eight degrees below normal.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two neighbouring states, was also lashed by heavy downpour. The low-lying areas in the city were flooded after the monsoon showers, which also brought down the day temperature.

Intermittent rains occurred in Punjab`s Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Moga, Phagwara, Balachaur, Ropar and Mohali areas.

Karnal, Hisar, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Panipat and Kurukshetra in Haryana received a heavy downpour.
