Women Chess Championship kicks off

Bhubaneswar: International Category Women Chess Championship 2013 kicked off on Sunday at KIIT University here. Participants from across six countries are taking part in the 11-day event.

Six Women Chess players from India and six overseas players from Germany, Armenia, Russia, China and Romania are participating in the big tournament.

Local stars and Woman Grandmasters Padmini Rout and Kiran Manisha Mohanty are also competing for the top slot.

The overseas players include Grandmaster Elina Danielan of Armenia, four international masters and six women Grandmasters.

The tournament, which will continue till March 27, will have eleven rounds with the prize money of Rs 9 lakh 20 thousand.
