Baripada: In a shocking incident, a woman buried her stillborn child in a garbage dump minutes after delivering him near her house in Dhipasahi village under Sarat police limits of Udala in Mayurbhanj district. The matter came to light after her husband came visiting her on Saturday after five years.

As per sources, the woman Masuri Singh who was staying with her parents delivered a dead baby boy when she had gone to attend nature’s call in the wee hours of Wednesday. Reportedly claiming it to be stillborn, she dumped him in a nearby cow dung stockpile and returned home.

Masuri said, “Not knowing what to do with the child, I buried him. It was already dead. So I decided to bury him.”

The matter came to light when her husband Hindu Singh, who works in Kerala, returned Odisha on Thursday. When Singh went to Dhipasahi to take his wife along with him to his village Keshapada, he got to know that his wife had given birth to a child and buried him.

However, since Masuri did not reveal where she dumped the baby, police rushed to the spot after being informed and recovered the body of the newborn boy buried under a cow dung pile.

“I was staying in Kerala for the past five years and only when I reached her village to bring her back, I got to know that she has delivered and buried a child saying it was stillborn.”

While the officials have initiated an investigation into the incident, it is yet to be ascertained under what circumstances the woman buried her own newborn baby.
