Rourkela: In a shocking revelation, the woman, who was reportedly beaten up by a group of people over child theft suspicion at Indira colony here last week, on Sunday alleged that she was beaten up for resisting a rape bid.

In her complaint filed at Plant Site police station, the woman labourer alleged that she was returning from work when 10-12 persons intercepted and attempted to rape her at Indirapally Chhak here on June 17.

“They ripped off my dress and attempted to rape me while I was returning home. When people gathered, they started beating me after branding me as child lifter,” said the complainant.

It is pertinent to mention that the incident had come to fore after a video of the mob thrashing the woman had gone viral on social media platforms.

The mob allegedly thrashed the woman who was then admitted to hospital in critical condition the same day. Later, she was shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) after her condition deteriorated. She is presently undergoing treatment at her house, sources said.

Basing on the complaint filed by the woman, police arrested three persons in this connection and produced them before court today.

Rourkela DSP PK Mishra said, “The woman was returning home at around 3 AM on June 17, when a group of the people attacked her suspecting her to be a child lifter. She had lodged complaint against seven persons while we have arrested three of them today.”

On rape attempt allegation, Mishra said since a woman is also an accused in the assualt case, the matter will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken if the charges are found true.
