Wind storm triggered rain lashes capital city

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain that lashed the capital city today morning has thrown normal life out of gear completely. While the rain water has reportedly entered in many houses of low lying areas, some places in the out skirt of the city are still in water. The rain triggered by active wind storm in the Bay of Bengal, according to the local meteorological department, is likely to continue the next 24 hours.

The unexpected downpour since last evening severely affected Acharya Vihar area where one Scorpio vehicle was reportedly swept away by rain water. The heavy flow of water through lanes and bylanes of the area has forced the locals to remain inside their houses. The water though started receding slowly, the residents fear flooding again since the rainy season has already started.

According to the weather department, the trough line running from Punjab through Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Odisha accompanied by a wind storm in Bay of Bengal has caused the rain. In the past 24 hours while Nayagarh has received 40mm rain Bhanjanagar recorded 37mm. The met department warns heavy downpour in western parts of the state due to low pressure.
