Bolangir: The Court of Additional District Judge (ADJ), Bolangir reserved its verdict after hearing the bail petition filed by the Punjilal Meher, the mastermind of Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion that left two persons including newlywed Soumyasekhar Sahu dead in February this year.

Punjilal, who is currently lodged at Patnagarh Sub-Jail, was arrested on April 23 by a special investigation team (SIT) of Crime Branch (CB).

According to sources, the SIT has visited various places in and outside Odisha and collected all facts and evidences against Punjilal that will be vital during the trial of the case. In the first week of May, CB officials had taken Punjilal to Raipur for reconstruction of the crime scene.

While CB officials are working on establishing the ‘sequence of events’ of the crime, the owner and the staff of the concerned courier agency, through which the killer parcel was sent, have identified Punjilal during a Test Identification (TI) parade.

Earlier on February 23, newlywed Soumyasekhar and his grandmother were killed in an explosion while unwrapping a wedding gift they had received by courier.

Soumyasekhar’s wife Reema Sahoo who was also critically injured in the incident is now living at the house of her in-laws in Patnagarh after being discharged from the SCB Hospital in Cuttack on April 12.
