Bolangir: In a major development in the Patnagarh wedding gift blast case, the Crime Branch (CB) officials reconstructed the crime scene along with Punjilal Meher accused in Raipur.

Punjilal was taken to Raipur where he showed a live demonstration of the crime plot right from his arrival in train and subsequently how he booked the parcel at the courier service.

The reconstruction was done in the presence of CB Inspector General Arun Bothra, sources said.

Senior CB officials informed that the purpose of reconstructing the crime scene is to ensure that the entire case is prosecuted without any errors or weaknesses.

According to sources, the investigation agency has gathered some significant evidence in connection with the parcel bomb explosion in which two persons including newlywed Soumyasekhar Sahu who was killed in February.

Meanwhile, the Higher Secondary Department yesterday suspended Punjilal, who was posted as a lecturer at Jyoti Vikash College at Bhainsa.

CB sources revealed that Punjilal is being brought to Patnagarh today from Raipur as the second phase of his remand is ending tomorrow.

The investigating agency is supposed to produce the accused before the Patnagarh court by 12:30 pm tomorrow.

A day before showing the reconstruction of crime scene, Punjilal was kept at Raipur Circuit house after a health check-up at Padmapur hospital.

On May 2, the Patnagarh Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) had allowed the CB to take Punjilal on a five-day remand in second phase. Though CB had sought remand of eight days, it was granted only five days of custody for further interrogation in the case.
