Malkangiri: The Health & Family Welfare Minister along with others on Saturday visited Patrol village of Malkangiri district where at least 11 children died of an unknown disease.

Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak accompanied by School & Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Health & Family Welfare Commissioner-cum-Secretary Arati Ahuja and top medical officials met family members of the victims. Nayak promised all assistance from the government. He asked the CDMO to take steps to prevent the unidentified disease.

Meanwhile, blood samples were sent to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar and Pune for examination. “The cause of the death can only be ascertained after report came,” Nayak added.

The disease is also detected from nearby villages including Chimtapalli, Arabamnpalli burudi, Chinturwada of the district.

However, doctors team have kept vigil on the situation, sources said.

The children first complained of fever and nausea which continue for some days causing death. The doctors’ team has started treatment in the affected villages. Primarily, it is caused by Viral encephalitis, doctors team said.
