Bhubaneswar: Come Thursday, Udaygiri, the world famous Buddhist complex which boasts of a number of monasteries will be a place of exchange of thoughts, where over two hundred Buddhist research scholars and monks across the globe are participating in the three day international Buddhist conference.

The conclave, ‘Buddhist heritage of Orissa: Situating Orissa in global prospective’ which aims at promoting an understanding and appreciation of the art and philosophy of Buddhism through interaction of participants, audiences, foreign scholars and researchers, is also expected to attract overseas tourists to other Buddhist sites of the state.

Oraganising for the first time such a conference of international repute, the Odisha tourism department is hopeful that more than two hundred scholars from several parts of India as well as abroad will attend the conference besides 20 from Korea, USA, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Poland, Japan and the UK.

Some lamas from Dharmasala in Himachal Pradesh, the abode of Dalai Lama are also expected to participate on the occasion.  

Besides exchange of thoughts, photo exhibition, film screening and other cultural programmes will also be organised.
