Bhubaneswar: In a relief for Posco and the district administration, the United Action Committee (UAC) decided to cooperate with the land acquisition process after a meeting with the district collector at Gudkujang on Monday.

The collector assured the UAC that an RDC level meeting would be held on May 30 in which they would discuss their demands.

On the other hand, the Posco land acquisition process began today after the Jagatsinghpur district administration had decided to postpone the process due to stiff resistance from UAC.

The land acquisition and compensation process began at 9 am on Monday. The administration has constituted three teams for Noliasahi, Polanga and Nuagaon villages.

The administration has also deployed eight platoons of police personnel in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

Earlier on Sunday, the UAC had decided to oppose the land acquisition work at a meeting in Nuagaon until the Govt. considers their demands. Large numbers of villagers had  gathered for the meeting and had decided not to allow the district administration to acquire their land.

On May 18, the land acquisition process for the Posco steel plant in the state resumed following the MoEF’s final nod for diversion of 1,253 hectares of forest land.
