Berhampur: Police on Friday arrested two engineering students on charges of killing an automobile trader in the town.

Manas Ranjan Parichha of Sorada and Arjuna Kar alias Muna of Buguda, final year diploma engineering students of a private technical institute on the outskirts of the town, were arrested on charge of opening fire on K Madhu, an automobile trader here last week.

Parichha and Kar were residing at Bijipur area here in a private mess. Madhu died on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, police said.

Even though police arrested two diploma engineering students, the main accused in the incident was still at large. "We have already identified the main accused in the case and searching to arrest him," said inspector-in-charge (town) police station S S Mohapatra.

The prime accused had engaged the two students to kill him, police said adding that extortion of money from the trader was the main cause of the crime.

Police said at least three motorcycle-borne miscreants fired four rounds at Madhu, when he was at his two wheeler showroom at Dharama Nagar here on May 3. Seriously injured Madhu was admitted MKCG Medical College and Hospital here initially and then referred to Visakhapatnam.
