Kendrapara: The Superintendent of Police (SP) Nitinjeet Singh on Thursday suspended Chaudakulata police outpost officer-in-charge and a constable for allegedly misbehaving with a 62-year-old man during a house raid at Bhagabatipur village yesterday night causing death of the senior citizen.

The cops who are on suspension are Chaudakulata police outpost officer-in-charge Satyanarayan Senapati and Constable Jayant Mahali.

The family members of Basant Nayak, the deceased, alleged the cops had raided the house in search of the Nayak’s son regarding a case of group clash in the village.

When the police personnel did not find Nayak’s son, they misbehaved with the father following which the senior citizen died of shock, the family members added.

Earlier in the day, locals detained four persons including two police officials. They also staged a road blockade on Chandbali-Cuttack route keeping the body on the road. After the intervention of administrative officials, the two cops were released and vehicular traffic was allowed on the route.
