Twin City limping back to normalcy after deluge

Bhubaneswar/ Cuttack: Almost after 24 hours of acute waterlogging due to heavy rain triggered by low pressure, twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is slowly limping back to normalcy with less or no major rainfall on Sunday.

However, nearly 11 localities in Cuttack are still waterlogged owing to slow clearance of excess rain water through the existing network of drains, sources said.

Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Bikash Mohapatra informed that over 200 motorpumps are being used to dewater several localities across the city.

With the waterlogged situation still prevailing, local residents have alleged that the civic body acted too late despite heavy rain forecast by the meteorological department.

Earlier, normal life in the twin city was thrown out of gear following the heavy downpour on Saturday.

The authorities of Bhubaneswar Muncipal Corporation (BMC) were also blamed for not taking concrete measures to prevent waterlogging at prominent locations in the smart city.

According to residents, the waterlogging has now become a regular feature at Shailashree Vihar, Iskcon temple, Jaydev Vihar, Jagamara and other parts in Bhubaneswar.
