Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: City denizens had a tough time reaching their destinations as incessant rains inundated several low lying areas restricting movement of traffic.

While most of places in the Bhubaneswar had knee deep water, the NH 16 stretch in front of Iskcon temple remained completely inundated. Apart from two wheelers and four wheelers, a bus along with passengers was spotted stuck on the road.

Jayadev Vihar wore a pathetic look as people as well as vehicles waded through water with much difficulty. As per reports, flood water entered houses of residents in different places including Behera Sahi and Samantarpaur.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today announced a helpline number to address complaints on situation arising due to inundation.

"People can call up the helpline number 0674-2430038 and ask for discharge of water in submerged areas," a senior BMC official informed.

The situation in Cuttack was no better as the district administration was forced to declare holiday for schools because of heavy rains.

Low lying places of the city including Roxy Lane, Rajabagicha, Meria Sahi and Patapola were submerged. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) deployed 115 pumps to discharge water in the waterlogged areas of the town.
