Keonjhar: Forest officials on Wednesday recovered the carcass of a tusker from Atei reserve forest near Kulimati village under Ghatagaon forest range in the district.

Villagers found the pachyderm lying dead in the forest and informed forest officials about it who, in turn, rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the death of the tusker.

According to locals, the elephant was roaming in the nearby forest of the village. The pachyderm fell while trying to move out of a canal after drinking water. This might have caused the death of the tusker, the locals added.

“We have seized the body of the elephant and conducted post-mortem. The exact reason behind the death can be ascertained after getting the post mortem report,” said a forest official.
