Top cops meet to chalk out strategies to deal with Maoist menace

Bhubaneswar: A crucial meeting to chalk out anti-Maoist strategies for Eastern region of the country will be held in Bhubaneswar today. Senior Security Advisor in Union Ministry of Home Affairs K Vijay Kumar and DGPs of four States- West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar will participate in the meeting.

The meeting will have discussion on strategies, joint operations, coordination among security forces, sharing of intelligence inputs and adherence to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). A few special policies are likely to come up in the meeting, sources said.

Police personnel and officials of various security agencies of East Zone will also take part in the coordination meeting, sources added.

Of late , the Odisha police has intensified its anti-Maoist operations to root out the menace from the State. Last month, a meeting in this regard was held at the DGP Camp office, where discussions on strengthening intelligence gathering network and proper coordination between local police and central paramilitary force were held.

Notably, seven Maoists, including two women cadres, were gunned down in separate encounters in Kandhamal and Bolangir districts in 48 hours last month.
