Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: Three children - two school students and a kid - were drowned in separate incidents in the twin cities on Sunday, police said.

While two students of Sudhananda High School at Kuranga Sasan under Cuttack Sadar police station were drowned during immersion of Ganesh idol in a puddle inside the school compound, a three-year-old child went missing in a canal in VSS Nagar area of Bhubaneswar, they said.

The two students identified as Dibya Ranjan Swain (16) and Abhisek Das (16) were studying in Class X.

According to Sadar police station inspector Ranjit Prusty, the duo had been to the puddle for immersion of the Ganesh idol and suspected to have slipped into the waterbody before being drowned.

However, police could not confirm whether they were accompanied by any school teacher as it was a Sunday.

The bodies were fished out and sent for post mortem to SCB medical college hospital here, Prusty said adding inquiry into the incident was continuing.

In the second incident, the three-year-old girl child was swept away as she slipped into the swirling waters while playing near his house located by the side of the canal.

Search operation was on to trace the body, they said.
