Bhubaneswar: Accountant General of Odisha Amar Patnaik has written a letter to the Urban and Housing Development department to take stern action against the illegal constructions in the twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

Taking a dig at the State government for non-implementation of the demolition rules, the official stated that in the capital itself there are nearly 84 constructions including 52 residential apartments, which are illegally built.

The market value of these constructions would be around Rs 910 crore, Patnaik stated.

Surprisingly, as many as nine residential apartments have been constructed on government land and the cost of which would be around Rs 4 crore.

In the letter the official has further stated that there are 14 such cases in Bhubaneswar in which construction work was resumed without approval even after permission were cancelled.

Patnaik said the State government has failed to act on 4025 cases of the 5687 cases in Bhubaneswar, against which demolition orders were served between 1988-2012.

Similarly, 73 buildings in Cuttack have been declared illegal, the letter said.
