Puri: International artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has carved out a sand sculpture at Puri Beach to create awareness regarding ‘Earth Hour’ programme which is being observed today globally. The sand sculpture measuring 8 ft height showed an electric bulb with a message 'Save Power Save The Planet'.

The brand ambassador of the State for the global event, Patnaik, has appealed all sections of the society to switch off light for one hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. He also led a rally around the holy city on Friday urging people to be a part of this voluntary campaign which will go a long way in saving the earth for future generations.

"We want to appeal to all the sectors ranging from corporate to all private sectors and to every citizen to switch off their lights for one hour. We want to create awareness campaign about turning off the lights for one hour, as power saving is very necessary for the cause of climate change," said Sudarsan Pattnaik.

Earth Hour is a global event organized by World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature and is generally held on a Saturday of March every year appealing the households and business houses to turn-off their non-essential lights and other technical appliances for one hour for the cause of environment.
