Khurda: Poor quality of road work in Deuli area under Bolgarh block of the district has led to public discontent.

The 4 km-long road between Deuli and Pichukuli with a cost of around Rs 1.80 crore was slated for completion in 2017 but the  project has not only been delayed but its substandard work has also raised concerns.

"The contractor is carrying out the construction work in a haphazard manner but there is no one to oversee. Just a month back, a portion of the road was constructed which we now find so poorly constructed that we can peel off the top of the road," Sankarsan Rout, a local resident said.

A pond has also been constructed adjoining the road and in rainy season, the water will definitely start eroding posing concern over safety of the road, locals alleged.

"We demand that a concrete wall of 200 to 300 metre should be constructed nearby the pond so as to provide safety to the road," local resident Pradip Kumar Barik said.

Even as the administration has accepted the low quality of work in the project, it has not said whether any action would be taken against the contractor involved.

Executive Officer Anadi Charan Sahu said the contractor had constructed nearly 200 metre of road without proper cleaning which led to the peeling of the road. "He has been instructed to clear out the designated portion of the road and then reconstruct it," he said.
