College ransacked over sexual harassment

Cuttack: After allegations of sexual harassment was brought by a girl student of Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering in Cuttack, violent protests erupted as students went berserk and ransacked the college premises.

According to sources, Durga Kumar Sinha, an instructor of the college, attempted to molest the girl student during a practical class couple of days back. No steps were taken after the incident was brought to the notice of the principal, alleged students.

The victim had also lodged a police complaint in this regard. The incident took an ugly turn today when the students, irate over the inaction of the college authorities, vent their ire by ransacking the college property. Police intervened in the matter and pacified the situation.

“The instructor tried to molest me even as I tried to stop him many times and asked me to keep my mouth shut about the incident. I want the accused and the principal to be removed from the college,” said the victim today.

However, when asked, the principal claimed that steps have been taken to suspend the accused instructor from duty.
