Bhubaneswar: State energy minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Tuesday proposed the Centre for reformation in much-publicised Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) under the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17). Citing certain ‘faults’ with RGGVY, Nayak said the scheme had failed to earn fruits.

In the State Power Ministers Conference held in New Delhi, Nayak demanded the Centre for three-phase electrification for agricultural activities in the state. He said that qualitative transformers must be supplied replacing the existing ones to improve agricultural production. Addressing the gathering Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said land acquisition process would be expedited for power plants. “If coal production increases, Centre aims to produce 88,000MW additional electricity in the next five years,” Shinde said.
