Bhubaneswar:  In an effort to strengthen its green drive, the state government has decided to plant nearly five crore saplings this year. While the forest department will plant about three crore saplings, the remainder would be distributed among the public. This was decided in a high level meeting on Tuesday chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The government which has increased the afforestation area in the state to two lakh hectare this year, aims to plant about eight lakh 43 thousand saplings in 27 towns and Bhubaneswar alone will share three lakh. While plans are there to plant various types of saplings along side 1600 km road in the state, plantation of bamboo saplings would be promoted in Kandhamal and Gajapati districts.
