Bhubaneswar: The State government today decided to increase the number of seats in Plus-II and Plus-III by 20 per cent in all government colleges from the current academic session.

Confirming the news, Higher Education minister Pradeep Panigrahi said that the move will add about 1 lakh seats for the students aspiring to pursue the courses in the government colleges in the State.

As the pass percentage in this year’s matriculation examination in the State is better than the previous year, it became inevitable to increase the number of seats in the colleges to accommodate all the successful students, Panigrahi explained.

The minister, however, clarified that the seats will be increased in a college on the basis of its infrastructure and other facilities, which is a must in imparting quality education.
