Rourkela: A Special Branch Constable was shot at by an inebriated youth following an altercation between the latter and a few others inside a beer parlour at Khamaripada Square in Sundergarh district late last night.

The injured constable, Soumendra Sethi, who received bullet injuries in his neck, has been admitted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela and is undergoing treatment in the surgical ward. He is out of danger now, informed doctors.

As per sources one Krishna Gupta entered into an argument with some youths in the beer parlour at around 11 pm. When Sethi tried to intervene and pacify them, Krishna opened four rounds of fire, one of which hit the former's neck . The accused fled the spot after the incident.

On receiving information, the Town police and the district SP rushed to the spot and have started investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Gupta’s three brothers have been detained by the police and are being interrogated. Gupta has other criminal antecedents, sources said. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
