Bhubaneswar: The construction of public utilities and much-awaited social housing schemes in the city has been expedited with allotment of land by General Administration (GA) department for the purposes.

The Site Selection and Land Allotment Committee approved 22 such projects in-principle in a meeting held under the chairmanship of chief secretary Gokul Chandra Pati at the secretariat conference hall here yesterday.

Principal GA secretary Niten Chandra presented the proposed projects and outlined the issues for discussion during the meeting and advised the project proposers to raise their construction vertically on the minimum space.

They have also been asked to ground the project and start real construction activities within one year of the allotment of land failing which government will review the allotment for cancellation.

The projects like social housing schemes at Dumuduma, Patrapada, Bhagabanpur, Subudhipur and Paikrapur, construction of 33/11-KV primary substations in Ashok Nagar, Chandrasekharpur and Gadakana, construction of reservoir and pump house at Patrapada, developing a commercial centre at Jharpada, construction of night shelters in Bomikhal, Chandrasekharpur, Ghatikia and Ashok Nagar, establishment of urban PHCs under NUHM in Patia, Chandrasekharpur, Pokhariput, Ghatikia and Samantapuri, construction of pumping stations at Mancheswar and Baramunda, establishment of prefabricated fish selling kiosks, construction of Vigilance Cell unit and staff quarter in Chandrasekharpur, construction of regional office for Health and Family Welfare department, construction of Bhubaneswar headquarter of Eastern Air Force for creation of infrastructure and associated facilities to undertake Disaster Relief Mission, construction of CBI residential complex in Chadrasekharpur and construction of Court Guest House at Bapuji Nagar have been approved in-principle by the committee.

Meanwhile, it has been also decided that land will be allocated after getting details of the project from the project developers along with timelines for commencement and completion.

Law secretary Mihir Ranjan Parida, director of Estates Ram Narayan Dash and senior officers from respective departments were also present during the discussions.
