Bhubaneswar: Refuting the Centre’s allegations that the state has failed in conducting anti-Maoist operations, director general of police Manmohan Praharaj on Monday said that situation in Malkangiri has improved while in Gajapati and Raygada districts the situation is under control.

In a reply to Union Home Secretary RK Singh’s last week letter, Praharaj said though the state was facing severe crunch in getting the service of young IPS officers, the cops superintending the operation work were handling their work responsibly. The activities of red rebels has also fallen considerably in Kalinga Nagar Division comprising Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj districts, the top cop said.

Praharaj however noted that anti-Maoist operations have been intensified in Narayanpatna, some areas of Kandhamal and the Chhatisgarh bordering districts of Nuapada, Bolangir and Bragarh which have recently been included in Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme.
