SHRC seeks report on fake Maoist encounter

The commission directed the SP to submit the findings within two weeks after taking cognisance of some media reports that two residents of Temiri village under Paikamal police station area were killed in a `fake encounter` on December 28.

"The commission may order a probe into the incident after getting report from the local police," OHRC Chairman Justice R K Patra said.

The state unit of the BJP had already demanded a CBI probe into the incident stating that Madhav Singh Thakur, one of the victims, belonged to the saffron party. "We see it as a planned murder," BJP state President Jual Oram told reporters.

A 12-hour bandh in Paikamal, Jharabandha disrupted life in the areas and adjacent places called by `Gandhamardan Surakshya Youth Parishad`, demanding action against the security personnel who killed Thakur, a front ranking leader of the Parishad, and another youth.

All schools, government offices, shops and business establishments remained closed for the day.

Bargarh SP Surya Thankapan, however, claimed that the duo were at a Maoist camp when the encounter took place on December 28.
