Shelter Security Mission in State soon

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide houses to poor people of both urban and rural areas at cheaper rate, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced ‘Shelter Security Mission’ in the State.

Inaugurating the two-day Collectors’ conference here at the State Secretariat, Patnaik said that State government will spend Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 crore to convert all kutcha houses into pucca one under the mission within next five years.

He asked the collectors on the occasion to work for the interest of people boldly. Patnaik said, he himself would monitor the progress of the work at the end of every month discussing with the collectors via video conferencing.

Meanwhile, he also unveiled the foundation stone of ‘Biju Pucca Ghar’ scheme in the inaugural session of the meeting. As a part of his commitment to people during elections, the CM announced the scheme in September.

The existing ‘Mo Kudia’ scheme is merged with the new scheme, Patnaik had declared.Thee annual budget provision of the Biju Pucca Ghar will be substantially enhanced from Rs 330 crore to around Rs 3000 crore in a phased manner, he had said. The new scheme will provide house to the poor families in the name of women of the household.

According to sources, the two-day long conference will have six sessions. The first day of the meeting will consist of three sessions. Rural housing, Indira Awas Yojana and Biju Pucca Ghar scheme was the subjects matters of the first session followed by constructions of modern public schools, hostels for SC/ST students and schools in second and drinking water supply and sanitation in last round segment of the day.

In the second day, there will be discussions on farming, food security and social security, the source added.
