Security lapse: Prisoner escapes from Bhawanipatna jail

Kalahandi: Taking advantage of poor security measures, a 40-year-old prisoner escaped from Bhawanipatna jail. The matter came to light after the jail authorities lodged a complaint at Town Police in connection with the incident on Friday.

According to reports, the prisoner Bhabasagar Sabar was lodged in the jail after being convicted in a woman harassment case. He was engaged in gardening works when he is suspected to have escaped from the prison, sources said.

Following the incident, police have started investigation while raids are being conducted at several places to nab the absconding prisoner.
