Bhubaneswar: The state government, all set to introduce school health programme from the next academic session, on Friday decided to set up school cabinet in all the state run schools.

This was decided at a meeting of state-level Mid-day Meal (MDM) Monitoring Committee chaired Chief Secretary B K Patnaik.

Apart from the prime minister, who would be the leader of the school cabinet it would have a health minister, a food minister, discipline minister, education minister and environment minister, he said.

The ministers would report to the prime minister about implementation of the various programmes.

Meanwhile, though the school health programmes had already been introduced in all the state-run scheduled tribe and scheduled caste residential schools, it would be extended to all other schools across the state, the official said.

This apart, the state government also decided to set up anganwadi centres in schools in order to encourage pre-school activities.

Under the MDM programme, the meeting decided to provide two eggs a week to all the children from class one to class eight. While Rs 4.90 would be spent on each meal for the upper primary school students, Rs 3.30 had been earmarked for the primary school pupils, the sources added.
