Sambalpur: Three days after the brutal murder of Pankajini Acharya, wife of well-known litterateur Bipin Bihari Acharya at Kalyan Nagar in the SRIT Colony area under Ainthapali police station limits in Sambalpur city, police on Sunday arrested the prime accused from Jada in Bargarh district.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sriram Panda, nephew of the deceased.

Talking to media persons here, Additional SP, Sushil Kumar Panigrahi, said Panda and his associate Sudhir Mohapatra had committed the crime with a motive to loot cash and ornament.

“Sriram had planned to commit the crime with his associate one month ago. On March 3, Sriram and Sudhir entered the house of Bipin Acharya while had gone out for an evening walk and stabbed Pankajini to death and fled the area after looting cash and ornaments. After arriving at his house, Bipin found the body of his wife lying in a pool of blood and called up his neighbours. Following a complaint lodged by Acharya, police had begun investigation and found the involvement of Sriram in the murder case. We are interrogating him and we will nab his associate very soon,” Panigrahi said.

After his retirement from government service, Bipin was staying with his wife while his children were staying outside with their family after their marriage.
