 Rourkela: A new escalator at Rourkela Railway Station was inaugurated today by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram.

Addressing media, the Union minister said," I would like to thank the Railway authorities for installing this escalator for the differently-abled and senior citizens."

The minister said that soon a lift will also be installed at the station.

This new facility is expected to provide support to patients, senior citizens and differently-abled persons.

The event was attended by Railways' Associate Regional Manager (ARM) Narendra Kumar, Divisional General Manager (DGM) Arjun Mazumdar and other senior officials.

"The escalator has been inaugurated by the minister and it will benefit the public. Now, they don't need to climb the stairs. Moreover, we are planning to install 40 chairs in the railway station for passengers soon," said ARM Kumar.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced the largest-ever allocation of Rs 1.48 lakh crore as capital expenditure for Indian Railways in 2018-19 Budget.

The Finance Minister had said that redevelopment of 600 major railway stations is being taken up by Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Limited and all stations with a footfall of more than 25,000 will have escalators.
