Bhubaneswar: A special court here on Tuesday convicted a retired IAS officer in a disproportionate assets case and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment.

Pronouncing the judgement, the Special vigilance court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Sanjeeb Kumar Ray, retired IAS officer and ex-additional secretary to Orissa government`s, Cooperation department.

Ray was facing trial on possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of his income. The state anti-corruption wing had framed charges against him under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

In case the fine is not realised, the convict has to undergo further RI for a period of six months," an official release said.

Ray, however, said he would challenge the special court`s verdict in the High Court claiming that it had not properly heard his side of the argument.
