Rath Yatra Coordination meeting deferred till July 6
Puri: The State government has deferred the fourth Rath Yatra Coordination Committee meeting till July 6 following the Sri Jagannath Sevayat Sammelani’s call to boycott the event. The meeting was scheduled to be held on July 3 under chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
As per reports, usually four coordination committee meetings are held every year ahead of the Rath Yatra. The fourth and final meeting is chaired by Naveen Patnaik who takes stock of preparedness for the annual festival.
The third meeting was chaired by Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty after Law Minister Pratap Jena skipped it due to some personal work.
On Sunday, servitors of the Puri Srimandir under the banner of Sri Jagannath Sevayat Sammelani had put up posters inside the temple premises calling for boycott of the fourth coordination meeting.
Accusing the Puri Collector’s anti-servitor attitude, Kashinath Khuntia, secretary of the Jagannath Sevayat Sammelani said,“As Arvind Agarwal will be present in the meeting, the Sameelani has urged servitors not to participate in it. Starting from Niladri Bije to the issue of alleged misconduct to First Lady in Puri Srimandir, the bureaucrat has maligned the image of servitors during different occasions.”
