Bhubaneswar/Angul: Protesters from nearly 60 villages on Monday launched economic blockade against Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) demanding adequate settlement and rehabilitation for the displaced. The agitators in large numbers sat in front of different gates of the plant shouting slogans against the company.

The protesters have been demanding settlement amount of Rs 50 lakh per acre and permanent job to one of the displaced families. Villagers of nearby Jarasingha have also joined hands with the irked members demanding to include their region in the peripheral development programme of the steel major.

Monday’s move followed the ‘failed’ July 19 meeting among the district administration, company authorities and the protesters where the company officials agreed jobs for the technically-trained individuals of the displaced families for the subsidiaries of JSPL. Members of the labour unions however didn’t agree with the company`s proposal.
