Cuttack: The state government on Tuesday ordered a departmental enquiry into the death of the baby suffering from acute pneumonia at Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel PG Institute of Pediatrics three days ago.

"A team of doctors are on the job to find out the cause of the death of the baby boy. If it is found that the death was due to negligence stringent actions will be taken," hospital superintendent Dr H K Mohanty said.

His statement followed an order by Health minister Damodar Rout. The parents of the infant complained that it died when the empty oxygen cylinder was not replaced for over two hours.

Local Congress leaders staged a protest demanding action against doctors and staff of the hospital.
