Berhampur: Police have seized 3.15 quintal silver ornaments from a vehicle in Gosaninuagaon of Berhampur.

While one Kedar Achari and the driver of the vehicle have been detained for interrogation, an investigation is currently underway to find out more details.

Police have come to know that on previous occasions Achari had distributed silver ornaments to different shops in Berhampur. According to sources, Achari has not been able to produce relevant documents following which police have taken the help of a Vigilance team, which is currently questioning the trader and verifying some available details.

However, Achari has refuted the allegations of lacking proper documents.

"I was transporting the silver ornaments to Bhubaneswar and even showed the requisite invoice to the officer, who said that the bill has been sent to the Vigilance department," Achari said.

Deputy Commissioner of Vigilance Department, Kulamani Mallick, said that investigation will be conducted under the GST Act.

"We have come here for verification and will carry out the procedures under the GST Act. It will take some time and subsequently a penalty will be decided," Mallick said.

Gosaninuagaon police station in-charge, Kulamani Sethi said "The trader was not able to show proper documents that's why we detained him. We have asked the Vigilance wing to investigate the case."
