PLFI member shot dead

Bhubaneswar/Rourkela: A member of the Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) was shot dead and four others injured including PLFI leader Dillip Singh in an encounter with the Rourkela police last night. Police claimed the miscreants are involved in the murder of BJD leader and Rajgangpur block ex-chairman Hardeep Singh, whose bullet ridden body was recovered from near a road connecting Kansbahal-Bhugarh on Saturday night.

“We suspect the miscreants are involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh” DIG (western range) Yaswant Jethwa told OTV. Police have also seized sophisticated weapons such as AK-47, rifles, carbines and 126 rounds of bullets from their possession.

On Sunday night, following two murders in quick succession, the special squad of Rourkela police with district volunteer force (DVF) team started the special operation to nab the PLFI members. Acting on a tip-off about their location at Manjurbeda near Udugaon, about 50 kms from Rourkela, the team conducted raid on the area leading to exchange of fire.

Police said PLFI member Rajan died on the spot and the four injured have been shifted to Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela.
