Rourkela: A member of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), an outfit active in Sundargarh district, was arrested and live catridges and a rifle were seized from him, the police said here on Tuesday.
 
Acting on a tip off that a member of the outfit was taking rest in a make-shift platform atop a big tree near Dhipatoli, a police team took position below the tree and asked him to surrender, deputy superintendent of police, Rajganjpur, Sushil Panigrahi said.
 
Finding no alternative, one Panu Barla of nearby Ranipiari surrendered alongwith one country made rifle, 15 live cartridges and PLFI literature and documents.
 
"Barla is a prized catch for us and soon we will arrest other members," Panigrahi said.
 
In September, police had arrested one Mmohammed Ali, from Muslim Para area while in the earlier month area commander of the outfit Arjun Gope managed to escape during an encounter with police.
 
In a separate incident, a youth who posed himself as a an active maoist cadre was arrested on charge of demanding a levy of Rs two lakh from a contractor.
 
The youth identified as Raju Ray of Kumjharia under Kuanrmunda police station had demanded the amount with the help of letters sent to the contractor in July and August. On being informed by the contractor, police had tracked his call and arrested the youth yesterday, police said.
