Bhadrak: Panic gripped Shyamapur village under Dhamnagar NAC of Bhadrak district as over a hundred Indian Cobra hatchings were spotted in the house of one Bijay Bhuyan today. Six of the 106 hatchlings were found to be dead, informed sources.

Sources said Bhuyan's daughter had killed a snake in the house last night, following which a Snake Helpline team had rushed to the spot and rescued 20 snake hatchlings. Since the mother snake was not rescued, the snake catchers again went to the house this morning and rescued 106 snake hatchlings including 21eggs from a termite mound in the room. Villagers in large numbers gathered in front of Bhuyan's house to see the reptiles.

According to sources, the rescued reptiles will be handed over to forest officials, who will release them into the forest or Hadagarh dam. The operation by the Snake Helpline officials was on till last reports came in.

In another incident, a venomous snake was found inside a mosquito net in the house of one Ujjwala Rout at Paikasahi under Banki police limits of Cuttack district.
