Woman teacher attacked with knife in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: In an incident that would look like a scene from a Bollywood pot-boiler, a woman was stabbed with a knife by a youth in broad daylight near Khaparapada under Dhusuri police limits in the district today.

The incident occurred when Deepti, a teacher at Khaparapada High School, was on her way with her sister to the school in a scooter at around 10 am. The accused, identified as Manas Panigrahi, waylaid the sisters and attacked Deepti with a knife.

Though stunned at the sudden turn of events, bystanders acted swiftly and overpowered Panigrahi after a chase. However, Panigrahi somehow managed to free himself and climbed up an 11-KV electric pole with an intention to commit suicide.

But he had a providential escape as there was no electric current in the wires in the pole due to power cut. Though he survived, Panigrahi was later admitted to the district headquarter hospital here as he sustained injuries after falling from the electric pole.

Meanwhile, Deepti’s family has lodged a complaint against Panigrahi and she too is undergoing treatment for her knife injuries at a local hospital. Police are investigating into the whole incident and trying to ascertain the reason behind the knife attack.
