UU, DCP discuss campus security

Bhubaneswar: With the palpable tension prevailing inside the Utkal University campus following the cancellation of this year’s students’ union elections by the University PG Council on Saturday, the university authorities had another round meeting with the Commissionerate police on Sunday.

Briefing the media persons after the meeting, university vice chancellor Prof Ashok Das said the university authorities briefed the police about the problems and situation in Vani Vihar.

“The discussion was on additional deployment of police and deficiency of security in some areas of the university. We will continue to discuss with the police regarding the security aspects. Security of the students is the major thing for us,” the vice chancellor said.

“We had a detailed briefing to the Commissionerate police regarding security problems on the university premises. The discussion was only on law and order situation in the university since it is major concern for us”, said Ranjan Kumar Bal, PG Council chairman.

Twin city police commissioner RP Sharma said following the unrest in Utkal University over the cancellation of students’ union election, there have been continuous meetings between the Commissionerate police and the university authorities.

“Today there was another round of meeting to assess all aspects relating to the situation in the university campus. The final decision lies with the university authorities after assessing the situation”, he said.
