Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD has hinted on a new political equation with the Samajwadi Party (SP) after the meeting between the Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Akhilesh Yadav in the capital city here on October 30, sources in the party circles said.
The UP chief minister is scheduled to arrive here on October 30.
Rumours are doing the rounds on a new political equation or a new Third Front.
Of the three preparatory meetings held on the formation of a Third Front earlier, the BJD had attended two meetings.
In spite of being in the Third Front, SP has kept itself aloof from the Front in the recently concluded Assembly polls in Bihar.
Both the BJD and the SP claim to have maintained equi-distance from the Congress and the BJP.
However, the BJD is hopeful of a new political equation.
“There will be a meeting between the UP chief minister and Naveen Patnaik. After the meeting, it cannot be said that a new political equation would not emerge in the country”, BJD spokesperson Pratap Jena told reporters here.
Exuding confidence, SP state unit president Rabi Behera said both the parties have the same ideology and believe in secularism. Besides, they have the similarities in their social, economic, religious and cultural traditions.
“I hope that both the chief ministers, as per the parliamentary traditions, will have a fruitful discussion”, he added.
