Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of State for Coal, Power and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal yesterday reviewed the progress of various electrification works in rural areas of the State and asked the State government to expedite the Rural Electrification work in a time bound manner.
After reviewing the progress of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDGJY) and Integrated Power Development Scheme in the State Goyal has said electricity will be transmitted to every villages of the State within two years.
Whereas the consumer base in the State has touched to 58 lakh, around 40 to 50 lakh families of 3500 villages in the State are yet to get electricity connection, said Goyal after reviewing the various projects.
So keeping this in mind, the government is aiming to supply electricity to 3000 villages by June 2016 under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, said Goyal adding that the Union government has so far provided Rs 3,000 crore under DDGJY and Integrated Power Development Scheme to the State and soon it will provide the rest Rs 1,700 crore to supply electricity to all the un-electrified villages in the State.
Among others, State Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das, department secretary, officials of NTPC, MCL and Power Utilities of the State were present during the review meeting.
Notably, Goyal is scheduled to meet chief minister Naveen Patnaik today. Later in the day, he will attend a press conference.
