Bhubaneswar: Chinmay Mahanand and Ram Nag from Odisha are contesting for president and general secretary posts respectively this year at the students’ union election at Jawharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Chinmay, a student of International Studies and Ram from Political Science are fighting for the top posts besides few others from the State who are contesting for other posts in the council.
Notably, the student’s union election at Jawaharlal Nehru University on Friday recorded 53.3 percent turnout, a marginal dip from last year.
The voting in the university was conducted at five centres with the exercise ending at 5:30 pm.
A total of 22 candidates were contesting for the Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union central panel that has posts of president, vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary.
Other 83 candidates had contested for the posts of councillors at all the centres of the university. All the major posts are now with the All India Students’ Association.
