Rourkela: Preparations are in full swing here to welcome prime minister Narendra Modi who is scheduled to visit the Steel City on April 1.
Modi will inaugurate the modernised and expanded units of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). This is RSP’s second modernisation work and around Rs 12,000 crore were spent on the project, reports said.
The PM will also check various units such as blast furnace-5, coke oven and newly-built slab caster and plate mills during the visit. That apart, he is also scheduled to address a public meeting at a ground near to the airstrip during the day, the reports added.
Ahead of the high-profile visit, Union Steel minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited the city to review the preparations.
“PM would dedicate the newly built unit of RSP to the nation and efforts would be made to make Rourkela a manufacturing hub and create employment opportunities for youth,” Pradhan said.
