Similipal national park reopens for tourists


Baripada: The world famous Similipal national park and tiger reserve in Mayurbjanj district of Odisha, which remained closed during rainy season, reopened for the tourists from today.

Visitors would be allowed to visit the largest tiger reserve of Odisha through two entry points at Pithabata and Jamuani, a communique issued earlier by Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) authority said.

Twenty-five and 35 vehicles per day would be allowed to enter the picturesque sanctuary through Pithabata and Jamuani check points respectively after obtaining necessary permission from the authority between 7 AM and 9 AM.


The visitors would not be allowed to roam the sanctuary area beyond 5 PM.

However, tourists willing for a night halt at Jamuani, Ramatirtha and Gudugudia rest houses, will have to book in advance at the Forest office at Similipal or they can book online through

The sanctuary, which is endowed with varied flora and fauna coupled with rich wildlife, attracts visitors from across the globe each year.

The sanctuary was closed from June 15 following the onset of rainy season as roads are washed away during this period.
