Cuttack: Hearing the case pertaining to the rejection of admissions in Sardar Rajas Medical College, the High Court has asked the Odisha Health Secretary Aarti Ahuja to be personally present at the court for the next hearing on Tuesday and explain the reasons behind State government’s opposition to MCI’s proposal.

Notably, MCI has proposed that students of Sardar Rajas Medical College, who had taken admission under government quota, should be accommodated in government medical colleges and those who came under management quota should be absorbed in private medical colleges. The state government has opposed to the proposal and moved the court against it.

“Students of Sardar Rajas Medical College, who had taken admission under government quota, should be accommodated in government medical colleges and those who came under management quota should be absorbed in private medical colleges”, said Rajanichandra Mohanty, MCI lawyer.

The state govt will inform us by tomorrow or if necessary then the Health secretary will also be present in the court”, said Asim Amitabh Das, petitioner’s counsel.

Earlier, the High Court had asked the state government to enroll the students of Sardar Rajas Medical College into an affiliated medical institute. The court had also ordered to complete the process in 14 days.

It may be recalled that the MCI had disallowed admission in Sardar Rajas Medical College this year citing infrastructure deficiencies.
